Quarter Horse Racing

Quarter horse racing is a race for horses of great speed to race in short distances in a straightaway course, originally a quarter-mile. This is how the name of this race came from.

There are several terms used in quarter horse racing such as blanket finish, bullring, register of merit, schooling race, tongue strap, and trial. ‘Blanket finish’ basically means two or more horses are very close at finish while Bullring is a half-mile racetrack. The term ‘Register of merit’ is designed to establish the record of outstanding performance. ‘Schooling race’ is a non pari-mutuel preparatory race, while ‘tongue strap’ is a strap to tie down a horse’s tongue to prevent choking and ‘trial’ means a specific race for the eligible horses to compete in a nomination race.

One of the differences between quarter horse racing and the common thoroughbred racing is that the favorite wins are worth a lot more. There will be a greater opportunity to get more returns in this type of race.

Quarter horses, which are originally from Virginia, are used because of their ability to sprint swiftly can produce close contests with many photo finishes. These horses’ ability to sprint can definitely produce tight racing results for their bettors.
